Since its opening in 2017, the Daikin Texas Technology Park has became one of the Houston area’s largest employers. It has expanded multiple times over the years and in 2021, they reached 10,000 jobs. They are also the nation’s third largest factory, following Boeing’s facility in Washington and Tesla’s facility in California. Now, the company is looking to expand again. Except that it has ran out of room so it will require a new warehouse.

The new facility will be places near the intersection of the Grand Parkway and 290 in what is dubbed the “The Great 290 Distribution Center”. The rise of Daikin brings numerous manufacturing, engineering and financial jobs to the Northwest Houston area. Although Waller County is considered a low density population center, it is likely to experience growth and potentially be the next major county in the Houston region.

Daikin’s Texas roots began when the company purchased Goodman Manufacturing. Goodman was originally based in San Antonio, but most of its growth has since occurred in Houston.

HVAC continues to be a booming industry as. Texas is booming in population and suffers from the highs and lows of temperature patterns. The facility’s location is located strategically to capitalize on this combination. Houston’s manufacturing and engineering talent force is also, according to the Greater Houston partnership.

Waller County rising as a manufacturing center

As a whole, Waller County has became a major high tech manufacturing center. It has landed landed numerous solar panel manufacturing facilities. Likewise, Tesla recently purchased over a million square feet in manufacturing space in what’s expected to be a battery cells facility. Though this project is in Harris County, its proximity to Waller is a reflection of how that area has transformed itself over recent years.
